Meadow Stream
  November of 1985
I came across this wandering stream among the tall grass in a narrow canyon. It was quite late in the afternoon. The sun was beginning to back light the trees and bushes. This makes for a rather difficult time to sketch.....the sun is usually shining in my eyes and the background trees look very flat. But the sun creates a halo around trees and bushes where the outside foliage reflects the light and creates a strong contrast to the denser parts of the tree. I always love coming upon these narrow mountain streams. This one leads the eye into the scene and creates a nice shadow along the shaded side of the bank. This sketch was completed very rapidly...under an hour.
